Dr. Flaten has extensive experience in both training and facilitation with a wide variety of personnel within the business, sport, and military communities. In a consulting role, often addresses multi-faceted business situations (both family and non-family) where leadership, next generation development, business governance, and wealth or finances may be at play. He draws on his experience as a certified mental performance consultant (CMPC), family business advisor, and professor in sport and performance psychology. Russ has an interest in helping, businesses, leaders, and teams achieve long-term goals through deliberate and insightful planning. Russ often supports leadership transitions by providing gap analysis to change and strategic planning. In a training role, Russ works with individuals on developing problem solving, communication, and organizational skills, confidence, character/strength development, and transitions in and out of their professions.
Education and Training
Dr. Flaten has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the Hamline University, a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Argosy University, and a Doctorate in Higher Education, with a specialization in Organizational Leadership from Argosy University. Russ completed his performance psychology internships working at the college level in Phoenix, AZ and continued working with college athletic departments while obtaining full certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) from the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). While working for the Military, Russ also received training in communication skills, transition work, neurophysiology, and program development and evaluation.
